A 5-run second inning propelled Big Walnut to a season-opening 14–4 non-conference softball victory over visiting Cardington Monday afternoon at Big Walnut High School.

Junior Ashley Kayser and sophomores Shaye Kuhlman and Leah Shaw combined for three singles and three runs in the frame.
Senior Morgan Stephens, who scored twice and plated a pair of runs, joined Cheadle with a pair of hits to lead the Golden Eagles’ 10-hit attack. Shaw finished with three runs and three RBI.
Senior Emily Petty started in the mound and worked the first five innings against the visiting Pirates to pick up the win. She allowed four unearned runs on four hits. Junior Allie Walker came on in relief in the sixth and threw two scoreless innings.
