Audrey Lynn Rice, a fifth-grade student at General Rosecrans Elementary, was honored as the Big Walnut Board of Education Student Citizen if the Month at Monday night‘s Board Meeting.
Audrey, who was born on December 28, 2000 in Oahu, Hawaii when her father was stationed there in the Army, is the daughter of Tom Rice, a pilot for both NetJets and the Ohio Army National Guard and Cassie Rice, who is employed in Food Services at Big Walnut Middle School.
She has an older brother, John, who graduated from Big Walnut High School in 2008 and now attends Tiffin University where he will graduate from this May.
Audrey enjoys playing soccer as well as the piano. She loves art, and this school year she has had the opportunity to help with the kindergartners In Mrs. Christine McWilliams’ art class. This has encouraged Audrey to become an art teacher when she is older.
She is a big fan of animals and volunteers with her mother at the Humane Society of Delaware County. Last year, Audrey and her friend, Hannah Ackley, organized a fundraiser at General Rosecrans for the Humane Society where fellow students brought empty pop cans to school to be recycled to raise money for the society’s Spay and Neuter Program.
Audrey expressed her gratitude for being chosen the Boards’ Student of the Month by offering her thanks.
“I am very excited to be chosen the Student of the Month,” she said. “Thank you!”
