Big Walnut language honor societies induct 85 new members

On Tues­day, March 20, Big Wal­nut High School chap­ters of three for­eign lan­guage honor soci­eties inducted 85 new mem­bers into their ranks. Société Hon­o­raire de Français inducted 35 new mem­bers, San Mar­tin Chap­ter de la Sociedad Hon­o­raria His­pan­ica inducted 31 new mem­bers, and Die Deutsche Ehren­verbindung Delta Esilon Phi accepted 19 new inductees.

Dur­ing open­ing remarks, Big Wal­nut Local School Dis­trict super­in­ten­dent Steve Mazzi said it was an honor to rec­og­nize the aca­d­e­mic achieve­ment of Big Wal­nut students.

“For­eign lan­guages are an inte­gral part of a 21st-century edu­ca­tion,” Mazzi said. “Under­stand­ing cul­tural diver­sity is key in today’s world. Sub­mers­ing one­self in another lan­guage is no small chal­lenge for these stu­dents while they were tak­ing other courses. It’s a job well done; they did some­thing great.”

The evening included music by Span­ish Piano Soloist María Sagan, who played No Olvi­daré; French Soloist Traci Ish­ler with La Vie en Rose, accom­pa­nied by Christoph Moore; and Ger­man Piano Soloist Christoph Moore, who played Lied ohne Wörter.

New mem­bers of San Mar­tin Chap­ter de la Sociedad Hon­o­raria His­pan­ica are Lucía Annis, Raquel Apple, Eva Bloom, Anto­nio Bok, Julia Brown, Pedro Bur­gin, Vic­tor Byrne, Rubén Carr, Clara Cira, Catalina Coul­ter, Cristina Gaggett, Lola Flesser, Sara Flynn, Adán Free­burg, David Her­nan­dez, Felipe LaVeer, Vio­leta Lescin­sky, Emilia Malik, Elena McGuire, Arturo O’Donnell, Clara Osburn, Salena Page, Paz Sha­heen, Olivia Small, Gabriela Ste­fa­niak, José Steller, Gabriel Vance, Ana Villa­viven­cio, Teodoro Win­dle y San­ti­ago Zumpone.

The pro­gram ended with remarks about the high school and mid­dle school Renais­sance Pro­grams by Big Wal­nut Mid­dle School Prin­ci­pal Penny Sturte­vant; Big Wal­nut High School prin­ci­pal Steve Fujii pro­vided clos­ing remarks.
