Martha J. Heil
Martha J. Heil, 84, Sunbury, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday afternoon April 14, 2012 at Countryview of Sunbury surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 19, 1927, in Columbus to the late Samuel R. and Lydia P. (Bush) Roberts. She was a member of the first graduating class at Columbus Linden McKinley High School in 1945. A secretary for Big Walnut Schools with 25-plus years of service. Martha was a founding member of the Sunbury Christian Church in 1956 and played piano for over 45 years for many weddings, funerals and other events. She held the title of “Mrs. Columbus, Ohio-1956”.
A women of deep abiding faith Martha was a family-oriented person, keeping her family close by, and tending to their needs. She was happiest spending time with her family and her church family. Her yard and gardens, Sunbury Ameria Flora, were always meticulous and something she was very proud of. Martha will always be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother with a concern for others. Martha enjoyed antique furniture and traveling, having been to all 50 states as well as 26 countries.
Martha is survived by Dan Heil, her childhood sweetheart and her husband of 65 years whom she married on April 17, 1947 in Columbus; daughters Jan Baxendale of Delaware and Sue (Jim) Boyd of Sunbury; grandchildren Alison, Abigail, Kacy (Jessica), Kody, Kelsy (Jeff) and Kory; great-grandchildren Jason and Jaelin; and by sisters Hazel Henson of Phoenix, Arizona and Doris Rarick of Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ted Baxendale; and brothers, Clyde and Wayne.
Calling hours were held Monday (April 16, 2012) at the Sunbury Christian Church, 250 Rainbow Avenue, Sunbury, where services were held Tuesday (April 17, 2012) with Pastor Mike Bratten officiating.
Interment will followed in the Sunbury Memorial Park.
Arrangements entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.
