Martha J. Heil

Martha J. Heil, 84, Sun­bury, went to be with her Lord and Sav­ior Sat­ur­day after­noon April 14, 2012 at Coun­tryview of Sun­bury sur­rounded by her family.

She was born on Novem­ber 19, 1927, in Colum­bus to the late Samuel R. and Lydia P. (Bush) Roberts. She was a mem­ber of the first grad­u­at­ing class at Colum­bus Lin­den McKin­ley High School in 1945. A sec­re­tary for Big Wal­nut Schools with 25-plus years of ser­vice. Martha was a found­ing mem­ber of the Sun­bury Chris­t­ian Church in 1956 and played piano for over 45 years for many wed­dings, funer­als and other events. She held the title of “Mrs. Colum­bus, Ohio-1956”.

A women of deep abid­ing faith Martha was a family-oriented per­son, keep­ing her fam­ily close by, and tend­ing to their needs. She was hap­pi­est spend­ing time with her fam­ily and her church fam­ily. Her yard and gar­dens, Sun­bury Ame­ria Flora, were always metic­u­lous and some­thing she was very proud of. Martha will always be remem­bered as a car­ing and lov­ing wife, mother grand­mother and great-grandmother with a con­cern for oth­ers. Martha enjoyed antique fur­ni­ture and trav­el­ing, hav­ing been to all 50 states as well as 26 countries.

Martha is sur­vived by Dan Heil, her child­hood sweet­heart and her hus­band of 65 years whom she mar­ried on April 17, 1947 in Colum­bus; daugh­ters Jan Bax­en­dale of Delaware and Sue (Jim) Boyd of Sun­bury; grand­chil­dren Ali­son, Abi­gail, Kacy (Jes­sica), Kody, Kelsy (Jeff) and Kory; great-grandchildren Jason and Jaelin; and by sis­ters Hazel Hen­son of Phoenix, Ari­zona and Doris Rar­ick of Lancaster.

She was pre­ceded in death by her son-in-law, Ted Bax­en­dale; and broth­ers, Clyde and Wayne.

Call­ing hours were held Mon­day (April 16, 2012) at the Sun­bury Chris­t­ian Church, 250 Rain­bow Avenue, Sun­bury, where ser­vices were held Tues­day (April 17, 2012) with Pas­tor Mike Brat­ten officiating.

Inter­ment will fol­lowed in the Sun­bury Memo­r­ial Park.
