Watkins’ Sexton blanks BW, 3-0

Big Walnut, returning from a successful 4–1 spring trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, opened its 2012 Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division slate on a losing note Monday.
Watkins Memorial (3–2, 1–0 OCC) scored a 3–0 victory behind the complete-game performance of Robbie Sexton who limited the Golden Eagles to three hits and no walks while striking out 10.
Tyler Beam, with a double, and Grant Beam and Seth Wandling, with singles, accounted for the Golden Eagle hits.
Cole Harbin started for Big Walnut (4–2, 0–1 OCC) and threw the distance, allowing one earned run on seven hits. He issued one base on balls while striking out one. The Golden Eagles committed four errors behind Harbin.
On their spring trip south the Golden Eagles defeated Laurel Highlands 8–5, Powell County 7–1, Sewickley Academy 19–0 in 5 innings and Mariemont 8–7 in eight innings. Their lone loss came at the hands of Riverdale Baptist, 13–2.
