Watkins’ Sexton blanks BW, 3-0

Big Wal­nut, return­ing from a suc­cess­ful 4–1 spring trip to Myr­tle Beach, South Car­olina, opened its 2012 Ohio Cap­i­tal Con­fer­ence Cap­i­tal Divi­sion slate on a los­ing note Monday.

Watkins Memo­r­ial (3–2, 1–0 OCC) scored a 3–0 vic­tory behind the complete-game per­for­mance of Rob­bie Sex­ton who lim­ited the Golden Eagles to three hits and no walks while strik­ing out 10.

Tyler Beam, with a dou­ble, and Grant Beam and Seth Wan­dling, with sin­gles, accounted for the Golden Eagle hits.

Cole Harbin started for Big Wal­nut (4–2, 0–1 OCC) and threw the dis­tance, allow­ing one earned run on seven hits. He issued one base on balls while strik­ing out one. The Golden Eagles com­mit­ted four errors behind Harbin.

On their spring trip south the Golden Eagles defeated Lau­rel High­lands 8–5, Pow­ell County 7–1, Sewick­ley Acad­emy 19–0 in 5 innings and Mariemont 8–7 in eight innings. Their lone loss came at the hands of Riverdale Bap­tist, 13–2.
