Big Walnut High School music students drew a standing room only crowd during last Wednesday’s Spring Concert in the high school auditorium; and even before the choir began singing, they were, as they always are, impressive.

Opening the evening, members of the Big Walnut High School Choirs, under the direction of Choir Director Lisa Huston and Assistant Choir Director Craig Porter, performed seven arrangements.

The evening began with Scarborough Fair, arr. Roger Emerson, followed by Who Knows? (Where the Wind Blows) by Joseph M Martin (a Mixed Choir District Required Piece & State Select), and the The Crawdad Song by Greg Gilpin and featuring solos by Nate Fagan and Connor Killinger with piano accompaniment by Zac Moore.

Axel F, arr. Deke Sharon, was performed by the BWHS Vocal Jazz Select Ensemble, followed by On My Way To Jordan by Jay Althouse with vocal solos by Abel Walker and Olivia Beckett and a snare drum solo by Sam Nance.

Man In The Mirror, arr. Kirby Shaw, featured solos by Thomas Hamann and Josh Schirtzinger, and the choir performance concluded with Let Me Ride by Garry A. Cornell.

Following a brief intermission to rearrange the stage, members of the Big Walnut High School Symphonic Band performed. Porter and Huston switched roles, with Porter serving as Band Director and Huston serving as Assistant Band Director.

The Symphonic Band opened with Alchemy by Gary Gackstatter (a District/State Select Piece), followed by A Song of Loudest Praise by Andrew Boysen (a State Required Piece), and then performed Proclamations by Rob Romeyn (another District/State Select Piece).

Closing the evening the combined choir and band performed Jay Bocook’s arrangement of Don’t Stop Believin’.
