Bobby Bogantz advances to USATF National Junior Olympics

Big Wal­nut High School incom­ing sopho­more Bobby Bogantz, run­ning unat­tached at the USATF National Junior Olympics Region 5 qual­i­fy­ing meet at Cedarville Uni­ver­sity, qual­i­fied for this week’s USATF National Track & Field Cham­pi­onships at Mor­gan State Uni­ver­sity in Bal­ti­more, Maryland.

To earn his trip to the nation­als, Bogantz placed third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4 min­utes, 34.25 sec­onds; and fifth in the 3,000-meter run at 10:24.31.

Dur­ing the 2011-12 school year Bogantz par­tic­i­pated in soc­cer and was a mem­ber of the Big Wal­nut boys track and field team.

Other Big Wal­nut stu­dents who com­peted at Cedarville were Avery Kerns and Cole Stark in the high jump, and Kaden Thomp­son in the pole vault.

The USATF Junior Olympic Nation­als opened on Mon­day and will run through Sunday.
