BW Summer Enrichment Program

Thursday, August 9, was closing day for the Olympic-themed Big Walnut Summer Enrichment Program. Students were assigned to teachers who served as coaches for the Olympic events of wrestling, swimming, soccer, etc.

Targeted students received intervention and instruction in reading and mathematics.

The summer program strived to make learning fun by utilizing reading and math games. For most students, the favorite session of the day was technology time.

The program was made possible through the use of Title Funds and a grant from Capstone Digital. Each student had an electronic tablet available for use during “Tech Time”. The tablet included a link to the myOn reader.

The myOn reader allowed students to access thousand of enhanced digital books in an effort to promote reading as an engaging and fun activity.

At the closing ceremony, all students received a gold medal for their participation in the program.

The Summer Enrichment program provided an opportunity for participating students to maintain and improve academic skills over the summer, as part of Big Walnut’s mission to inspire and guide all students to reach his or her maximum potential.
