Finish Moving With the Spirit, Run for John, Big Nut Strut event and you’re in BW Fall 5K

How would you like to run three Big Wal­nut area 5K fundrais­ing races and not pay any addi­tional fee to be entered to win prizes? Now it’s pos­si­ble with the newly-formed, and com­pletely free, Fall 5K Grand Prix. To be eli­gi­ble for Fall 5K Grand Prix prize draw­ing all run­ners and walk­ers need to do is enter all three of the area’s pop­u­lar fall sea­son 5K races — Mov­ing With The Spirit, Run for John and the Big Nut Strut.

Mov­ing With The Spirit 5K, ben­e­fit­ing Wounded War­riors and local out­reach projects, will be held on Sat­ur­day, August 18, at Galena United Methodist Church, 2777 Sun­bury Road in Galena. Reg­is­tra­tion appli­ca­tions for Mov­ing With The Spirit, the first leg of the Grand Prix, are avail­able at Sun­bury Kroger’s, Sun­bury Vet­eri­nary Clinic, Delaware County Bank & Trust (Galena and High­land Lakes Branches), Sun­bury Clean­ers, Roll Bike Shop, Giammarco’s and other loca­tions around Sun­bury and Galena. You may also reg­is­ter online by fol­low­ing links at < galenachurch.org >. Reg­is­tra­tion is $25 before race day, $30 on race day and $2 for the Kid’s Race.

Run For John, sched­uled for Sat­ur­day, Sep­tem­ber 1, is a 5K Char­ity Run/Walk that ben­e­fits Big Wal­nut Friends Who Share. The Run For John reg­is­tra­tion fee is a mod­est $25, and there are also reduced rate fam­ily 4-pack, 5-pack and 6-pack reg­is­tra­tions avail­able. The third annual Big Nut Strut 5K on Sun­day, Octo­ber 7, will raise funds for Big Wal­nut Local School Dis­trict PTO’s to be used dur­ing the school year for needs and activ­i­ties that fall out­side of nor­mal cur­ricu­lum fund­ing. The Big Nut Strut course will run through neigh­bor­hoods sur­round­ing Kroger Plaza. Big Nut Strut reg­is­tra­tion details had not been final­ized by press time, but will be pub­lished in The Sun­bury News as soon as avail­able. Poten­tial spon­sors and any­one inter­ested in mak­ing either cash dona­tions to help off­set race costs or free­bies for race pack­ets shout email race orga­nizer Sandie Knapp at < ksksleepyacres@aol.com >.

Each of the three walk/run races are fam­ily friendly events and fea­ture awards for chil­dren and adults. Reg­is­tra­tion fees are required, as always, for each indi­vid­ual race; but run (or walk) and fin­ish all three races and your name will auto­mat­i­cally be included in the Fall 5K Grand Prix drawing.

Draw­ing prizes include Fron­trun­ner gift cer­tifi­cates, a round of golf at Bent Tree Golf Club, Jerky from Virgil’s Jerky Plus, a Sun­bury Clean­ers Gift Cer­tifi­cate, a one-year sub­scrip­tion to The Sun­bury News and more.

Remem­ber, any­one who reg­is­ters and fin­ishes all three par­tic­i­pat­ing races (Mov­ing With The Spirit, Run for John, Big Nut Strut) will have their name put in for the draw­ing. There is no addi­tional fee to any­one and they do not have to reg­is­ter for the Grand Prix, just the races.
