Sunbury PD: Cemetery thief caught, victims sought

During a recent Sunbury Village Council meeting, village administrator Dave Martin reported that a thief or thieves had been stealing solar powered lights from graves at Sunbury Memorial Park, the village owned and maintained cemetery.
Martin said the Sunbury Police Department promised to increase cemetery patrols, and even hinted that video surveillance monitoring might be used to capture the perpetrators.
Last week, Sunbury Police Chief Pat Bennett said an arrest had been made and solar powered lights were recovered.
Bennett said only three thefts were reported to his department, and those solar lights have been returned to their rightful owners.
But there’s more — lights, that is.
Bennett said more solar-powered lights were recovered than the ones reported stolen. He asked that anyone who has had a light stolen from the cemetery, but has not reported the theft, to stop by the Sunbury Police Department to see if any of the excess lights belong to them.
The Sunbury Police Department is located in the lower level of the Village of Sunbury Administration Building, 9 East Granville Street, Sunbury. For additional information call 740–965-3946.
