Tickets now on sale for Senior Services Fundraiser

The Com­mit­tee to Save Senior Ser­vices will host its 14th annual fundrais­ing event on Thurs­day, Sep­tem­ber 6, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This year’s Scar­let and Gray Soiree, pre­sented by Manos, Mar­tin and Per­gram Co. will be held at Brook­shire, 405 Greif Park­way in Delaware. Guests will enjoy a fun Buckeye-themed, tailgate-party set­ting with live and silent auc­tions, deli­cious food, wine, beer and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as enter­tain­ment and black­jack with fab­u­lous prizes!

This event serves as the only annual fundraiser for the Com­mit­tee to Save Senior Ser­vices. Every five years the Com­mit­tee is required by Ohio law to go back to the pub­lic to renew or replace our local senior ser­vices levy. This levy pro­vides approx­i­mately 80 per­cent of the fund­ing for the local in-home and community-based ser­vices pro­vided by the Coun­cil for Older Adults. The cur­rent oper­at­ing levy was last approved in 2008, and this year’s fundraiser will again focus on prepar­ing the resources nec­es­sary to run the Committee’s 2013 campaign.

Delaware County’s age 60 and over pop­u­la­tion is cur­rently over 25,000 and, due to aging Baby Boomers, is expected to dou­ble over the next 10 years. With that unprece­dented growth, the need for senior ser­vices will dra­mat­i­cally increase as well. Pas­sage of the levy will enable the Coun­cil for Older Adults to con­tinue to pro­vide ser­vices such as Meals On Wheels, per­sonal care, med­ical trans­porta­tion, house­keep­ing, emer­gency response sys­tems and much more, keep­ing older adults in their homes to avoid unnec­es­sary nurs­ing home placement.

Tick­ets are $25 per per­son if pur­chased by August 31, and $30 on or after Sep­tem­ber 1. They may be pur­chased at the Cen­ter for Older Adults, 800 Cheshire Road in Delaware on Mon­day through Fri­day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Requests for tick­ets by mail may be sent to the above address with checks made out to the Com­mit­tee to Save Senior Ser­vices. Tick­ets may also be pur­chased online at < www.growingolder.org > and will be avail­able at the door.
