Big Walnut girls tennis extends winning streak to four

Big Walnut extended its winning streak to four matches with last Thursday’s (August 30) impressive non-league shutout decision over the host Monarchs in Marysville.
Big Walnut (5–3, 1–1 OCC) was led by Grace Coffman, Bailey Sewalk and Melissa Grooms who swept the singles courts with three two-set decisions. Coffman scored a 6–2, 6–1 victory at first singles, Sewalk a 6–2, 6–1 decision at second singles and Grooms completed the sweep with a 6–3, 6–0 win at third singles.
On the doubles courts, the Golden Eagles’ victories came via Emily Balaz and Brittany Kizer, 6–1, 6–2 winners at first doubles, and Blake Stenger and Cali Ford, who won 7–6, 6–4 at second doubles.
BIG WALNUT 4, DELAWARE HAYES 1 — The Golden Eagles emerged from last Tuesday’s (August 28) Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division clash against the host Pacers with their fourth win of the season for head coach Ryan Balaz, but don’t let the 4–1 final score fool you, it was a battle.
Two of Big Walnut’s (4–3, 1–1 OCC) wins came via three-set thrillers. At first singles, Grace Coffman came from behind to edge the Pacers’ Blair Ramsey 6–7, 7–5, 6–4. The Golden Eagles’ other three-set win came at second doubles, where Emily Balaz and Brittany Kizer combined to beat Caroline Proffitt and Lexus Wolf 6–3, 5–7, 6–4.
The Golden Eagles’ other two wins came at second singles, where Bailey Sewalk knocked off Claire Brennan 6–1, 6–1; and at third singles, where Melissa Grooms handled Bree Brown 6–3, 6–0.
Hayes’ lone win came at first doubles, where the Pacer duo of Alissa Beard and Audrey Mungovan battled from a first-set deficit to overtake Cali Ford and Blake Stenger 4–6, 6–4, 6–4.
