Fall Homecoming at Big Walnut High School isn’t just a day and a dance; Homecoming is a weeklong schedule of activities leading up to a traditional homecoming football game. Big Walnut High School’s 2012 Homecoming Week begins on Monday, October 1, and continues through the week with a special theme for each day.
On Monday, students throughout the school will be involved in a Color Battle — Seniors will be blue for Kenny, Juniors will be orange, sophomores will try on black and Freshman will be white.
Tuesday will be Twin Day; Wednesday is for Grease Lightnin’; and Thursday is Theme Day – this year Seniors will be Wonderful World of Seniors, Juniors will be Double-o-Seven, Sophomores will be Sugar Coated Sophomores, and Freshman will be Fantasy Freshman.
On Friday, a Spirit and Pep Rally at the end of the school day will determine which is the most spirited class at the high school – freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors.
At 5:15 p.m. Friday students from all six district school buildings will gather at the Sunbury United Methodist Church upper parking lot to stage the 6 p.m. Fall Homecoming Parade.
Each district school building prepares a float for the parade, and students from each school march in the parade to show their Eagle Spirit. After the parade, one school is chosen as the most spirited, and will be home to the Eagle Spirit Trophy for the next 12 months.
Back at the high school stadium, the 2012 Fall Homecoming Candidates and Court will be introduced at 7:05 p.m., followed by the crowning to the 2012 Fall Homecoming Queen.
The 2012 Fall Homecoming Queen candidates are Maggie Ferguson, Natalie Chatterton and Ali Malik. Their escorts are Dom Zitello, Carson Chatterton and Adam Shaheen, respectively.
Underclass homecoming court members are juniors Olivia Daggett and Micah Arbogast, sophomores Avery Kerns and Nick Guglielmi, and freshmen Sarah Hatfield and Jacob Young,
The Homecoming football game against visiting Mount Vernon kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the homecoming dance will be held from 8 to 11p.m. at the high school. Tickets are $7 presale and $10 at the door.
Dance organizers are still seeking chaperones so if anyone would like to volunteer contact student council advisor Angie Stooksbury at < angiestooksbury@bigwalnut.k12.oh.us > or the student council email mailbox at < bwhsstudentcouncil@gmail.com >.
