Fleak’s four goals give BW 4-3 girls soccer victory

Skylar Fleak capped a productive night by booting home her fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining to lead Big Walnut to a 4–3 non-conference victory over the host Tigers last Thursday night at Pickerington Central High School.
Big Walnut (2–3) held a 2–0 lead at the half and a 3–2 second-half advantage following goals by the Tigers’ Lizzie Awuah and Megan Davis. In what was a very competitive contest from beginning to end. Central battled back to pull even at 3–3 on Taylor Johnson’s goal, but Fleak responded to the challenge as she powered her game-winning goal into the back of the Tigers’ net to snap a three-game Golden Eagle losing streak.
“We’ve been in every game so far this season,” BW head coach Jim Reardon said, noting his club had dropped a pair of 2–1 decisions to Hilliard Darby and Olentangy. “Even in our 5–0 loss to Worthington Kilbourne we had our opportunities, but we failed to take advantage.”
Fleak took advantage Thursday night with her four-goal barrage.
“Going into the game I told Skylar she was right there and as a team we were on the verge of putting everything together.” Reardon said. “Everyone played well, both on offense and defense … I was very pleased.”
BW goalkeeper Mackenize Pike anchored the back end of the Golden Eagle defense with 8 saves. Lisa Slattery rcorded 8 stops in the Central net.
OLENTANGY 2, BIG WALNUT 1 — Abby Schwing scored 20 seconds into the game, Payton Naylor added an insurance goal later in the half and the Braves held off a late Golden Eagle surge to secure the Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division decision last Tuesday (August 28) at Olentangy High School.
“We didn’t play our best, but we got the win,” Olentangy coach Drew Zellers said. “It’s better than playing well and losing, I guess.”
Skylar Fleak scored for Big Walnut (1–2, 0–1 OCC) while the Braves’ Bailey Hatch stopped five shots in the Olentangy goal. Mackenzie Pike, with 6, and Jordan Lyle, with 4, combined for 10 saves in the Golden Eagle nets.
