Golden Eagle volleyball sinks Pioneers 3-0

The Golden Eagles held the Pio­neers at bay.

Big Wal­nut held off the fast-closing Pio­neers of Olen­tangy Orange en route to last Thursday’s (Sep­tem­ber 13) 25–11, 25–17, 25–20 Ohio Cap­i­tal Con­fer­ence Cap­i­tal Divi­sion vic­tory at Sunbury.

With the tri­umph, Ron Lehman’s Golden Eagles improved to a per­fect 7–3 over­all and to 6–0 in the Cap­i­tal Divi­sion. Last Tues­day (Sep­tem­ber 11), Big Wal­nut closed out OCC rival New Albany with a 25–21, 25–14, 25–10 home decision.

“The girls played well tonight,” Lehman said. “The pass­ing was really good, they hit the ball well and the serv­ing really helped. We had a ton of aces.”

Abby Painter led with a team-best seven aces all by her­self, adding an addi­tional seven kills to lift her Golden Eagles to the three-game sweep. Join­ing Painter as stat lead­ers were Natalie Chat­ter­ton, who closed with seven kills and one ace; Kalynn Bow­mar, who fin­ished with six kills; and Brooke Hat­field, who fin­ished with four kills.
