News Staff Reports
The Golden Eagles held the Pioneers at bay.
Big Walnut held off the fast-closing Pioneers of Olentangy Orange en route to last Thursday’s (September 13) 25–11, 25–17, 25–20 Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division victory at Sunbury.
With the triumph, Ron Lehman’s Golden Eagles improved to a perfect 7–3 overall and to 6–0 in the Capital Division. Last Tuesday (September 11), Big Walnut closed out OCC rival New Albany with a 25–21, 25–14, 25–10 home decision.
“The girls played well tonight,” Lehman said. “The passing was really good, they hit the ball well and the serving really helped. We had a ton of aces.”
Abby Painter led with a team-best seven aces all by herself, adding an additional seven kills to lift her Golden Eagles to the three-game sweep. Joining Painter as stat leaders were Natalie Chatterton, who closed with seven kills and one ace; Kalynn Bowmar, who finished with six kills; and Brooke Hatfield, who finished with four kills.
