OSU Alumni Club of Delaware

The OSU Alumni Club of Delaware County became sanc­tioned by the Ohio State Alumni Asso­ci­a­tion on Sep­tem­ber 9 of 2011, with a mis­sion of recruit­ing stu­dents from the greater Delaware County com­mu­nity to attend OSU, offer a schol­ar­ship pro­gram, par­tic­i­pate in com­mu­nity ser­vice projects, and fellowship.

“It’s hard to believe that the OSU Alumni Club of Delaware County has been in exis­tence for nearly one year now,” said the club’s sec­re­tary and com­mu­ni­ca­tions com­mit­tee chair Joyce Wag­ner, who also serves as an OSU senior busi­ness ana­lyst. “What a fab­u­lous first year we’ve had – our first schol­ar­ship fund raiser, trips to games, Scioto Downs and much more. Best of all, to date, the club has raised nearly $1,200 for our schol­ar­ship program.”

Wag­ner said the club’s board has been busy plan­ning events and activ­i­ties for its sec­ond year; and gath­er­ing at local restau­rants to watch away games has become a pop­u­lar club activity.

On Sat­ur­day, Sep­tem­ber 29, Delaware OSU Alumni will meet 15 min­utes before game time at PJ’s Pizza, 571 West Cherry Street (U.S. 36/Ohio 37), Sunbury.

“Plan to arrive 15 min­utes prior to kick-off to eat pizza or subs, have some bev­er­ages and cheer on our favorite team to a vic­tory over Michi­gan State,” Wag­ner said. “No RSVP is nec­es­sary. The sec­ond away game watch will be held at the Rusty Bucket, Polaris Park­way, West­er­ville on Octo­ber 13 against Indi­ana; and for the third away game watch we will be back at PJ’s Pizza on Octo­ber 27 vs. Penn State. The final game watch will be held at the Rusty Bucket on Novem­ber 17 vs. Wisconsin.”

Upcom­ing Events:

• At 7:30 p.m. on Tues­day, Octo­ber 2, In honor of Veteran’s Day, the club is host­ing a pre­sen­ta­tion and book sign­ing by Viet­nam Vet and OSU alumni, Bill Shkurti on his book, Sol­dier­ing On in a Dying War. Books will be avail­able for pur­chase at a dis­counted rate of $28 — please bring cash or check. The pre­sen­ta­tion will be held at the Genoa Com­mu­nity Hall, 5111 South Old 3C High­way, West­er­ville. A brief busi­ness meet­ing will pre­cede the presentation.

• At 5 p.m. on Sun­day, Octo­ber 7, club mem­bers will hold a hayride and wiener roast at Miller’s Coun­try Gar­dens, 2488 Ohio 37, Delaware. The cost is $10 ($5 for chil­dren 10 and under). RSVP no later than Mon­day, Octo­ber 1, with check payable to OSU Alumni Club of Delaware County, 4999 Hawthorne Val­ley Drive, West­er­ville, 43082.

• Enjoy bowl­ing? No prob­lem. Bowl with other Delaware County OSU Alumni from 1 to 3 p.m., Sun­day, Octo­ber 21, Delaware Lanes, 536 Sun­bury Road, Delaware. There will be prizes for high and low scores, the cost will be a mod­est $12 per per­son for two games and shoes. Delaware Lanes has a grill for pur­chase(?). RSVP by Fri­day, Octo­ber 12th with check payable to OSU Alumni Club of Delaware County.

Wag­ner said other OSU Alumni Club of Delaware County events to look for­ward to this year include a Pan­cake Break­fast on Novem­ber 10, and the club’s annual Christ­mas Party on Decem­ber 11.

“Make sure that you don’t miss out on a sin­gle sec­ond of Buck­eye fun by renew­ing your club mem­ber­ship for the 2012–13 year,” Wag­ner said. “Paid mem­ber­ships received by Octo­ber 15 will be entered into a raf­fle for a $50 gift card to the Rusty Bucket. And remem­ber to encour­age your fam­ily, friends and neigh­bors to join – any­one who lives in Delaware County is eli­gi­ble to join our club. too.”
