If you are one of those folks who can’t get enough chrome, the Sunbury-Galena Rotary Club is hosting its 20th annual Classic Country Car Show on Sunday, October 7, with one major change — the location.
For the last 19 years, weather permitting, the cruise-in has been held on historic Sunbury Village Square. This year, in order to accommodate the growth of the show while ensuring safe, easy access for car owners and spectators, the show will be held at the Big Walnut High School parking lot in Sunbury.
This show brings with it the potential for over 300 cars, and features classic car owners and enthusiasts from all over Central Ohio and all models of classic cars, trucks and street rods; and cruise-in organizers will hand out a host of trophies, including several “Best of …” categories along with Favorites awards, and the coveted Best of Show Award.
The Rotarians have teamed up with Bry-Air Relay for Life Team to serve food, including breakfast sandwiches and coffee for early birds, and will feature a special recipe Fried Bologna sandwich along with Coney’s and all the fixings during the afternoon.
Registration runs from 9 a.m. until 12 noon and the cost is a modest $10 per vehicle. Dash plaques go to the first 200 registrants along with a ticket for a chance to win one of many door prizes.
Roger Bishop, of Hyper Sounds Entertainment, will spin classic tunes throughout the day, making it a fun afternoon for the entire family; and there’s no charge to stop by and take a walk down memory lane.
Proceeds from the annual Cruise-In benefits the club’s charitable efforts, which include college scholarships for Big Walnut students and the Sunbury-Galena Rotary’s Swim for Life Program. The Swim for Life Program provides free swim lessons for children from low-income families in the local community.
Major sponsors for the Galena-Rotary Club’s 20th Annual Classic Country Car Show include Ruark & Sons Automotive, Phil’s Collision Repair, Eagle Auto Repair, Hyper Sounds Entertainment, Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Carol O’Brien and Body by Vi Challenge.
The Sunbury-Galena Rotary Club is a local chapter of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional members working together providing humanitarian service and helping promote peace and goodwill in the world.
Big Walnut High School is located at 555 South Old 3C Highway (South Columbus Street) in Sunbury.
