Big Walnut, recording a win on all five courts to run their season record to 13–6, battled their way past visiting Buckeye Valley (4–8) in non-league play last Tuesday (October 2) in Sunbury.
The best match was played at third singles where Big Walnut’s Melissa Grooms battled from behind to knock off Hana Hall 1–6, 6–2, 1–0 (10–7 in tiebreaker).
In other singles action, the Golden Eagles’ Grace Coffman bested the Barons’ Lynn Conley 6–1, 6–1 at first singles while Bailey Sewalk handled Nichole Mullins 6–2, 6–2 setback at second singles.
On the doubles courts. Big Walnut’s Emily Balaz and Blake Stenger teamed to take Amber Green and Becky Votaw 6–2, 6–1 at first doubles while Brittany Kizer and Cecily Nelson paired to defeat Sarah Parker and Amanda Petrime 6–0, 6–2 at second doubles.
DUBLIN SCIOTO 5, BIG WALNUT 0 — The host Irish swept the Golden Eagles in the regular-season finale for both teams Monday at Dublin Scioto. The match, originally scheduled for September 27, was postponed to Monday by rain.
In singles play, Dublin’s Bansai defeated Grace Coffman 6–2, 6–2 at No. 1; Xu held off Bailey Sewalk 6–3, 7–5 at No. 2; and Rai bested Melissa Grooms 6–2, 6–1. In doubles, it was Scioto’s Patel-Choudnary over Emily Balaz and Blake Stenger 6–3, 6–0 and C. Patnmatnasan-R. Patnmatnasan defeating Cali Ford and Brittany Kizer 6–1, 6–1.
The Golden Eagles closed out their season with a 13–7 overall record and a 4–3 mark in the Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division.
