Ken­neth M. “Kenny” Crowl

Ken­neth M. “Kenny” Crowl, 81, Sun­bury passed away peace­fully and sud­denly Thurs­day, Sep­tem­ber 27, 2012, at home.

The life­long area res­i­dent was born on May 23, 1931, in Sun­bury to the late Ger­ald L. and Alta L. (Ross) Crowl. He was a grad­u­ate of Sun­bury High School in 1949. It was at the Sun­bury Five and Dime that he met Loraine Roof. He mar­ried his sweet­heart Loraine in 1949 and together they shared 25 won­der­ful years, until her untimely pass­ing on July 4, 1975.

Kenny worked for the U.S. Postal Ser­vice for 30 years, retir­ing as post­mas­ter of the Sun­bury office. At one time he owned and oper­ated both the Sun­bury Coin Laun­dry and Crowl’s Crème Corner.

He was actively involved in the Sun­bury area com­mu­nity, both as a busi­ness owner and in numer­ous clubs and orga­ni­za­tions. A long­time mem­ber of the Sun­bury United Methodist Church, he sang in the church choir for 60 years. He was a char­ter mem­ber of the Porter Town­ship Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment and a for­mer mem­ber of the BST&G Fire Depart­ment. He served on the Sun­bury Vil­lage Board of Pub­lic Affairs. As a 53-year mem­ber of the Sun­bury Lions Club, he held almost every club office. He was a mem­ber of Spar­row Lodge No. 400 F&AM, as well as an active mem­ber of the Big Wal­nut His­tor­i­cal Soci­ety, Mey­ers Inn, Delaware County Pio­neers and an avid patron of Yum-EE Donuts.

In his lit­tle free time, he enjoyed work­ing with wood, restor­ing fur­ni­ture and col­lect­ing antique cars. His favorites were his child­hood 1934 Ply­mouth Coupe and 1977 Gold Cadil­lac. He could eas­ily be spot­ted with his trade mark 43074 Ohio license plate.

Those left to cher­ish his mem­ory include his chil­dren: Ger­ald W. (Bar­bara J.) Crowl of Sun­bury, Thomas D. (Bar­bara J.) Crowl of Black­lick, Dou­glas P. (DiAnna M.) Crowl of Sun­bury and Karen Susan Ben­nett of Tac­coa, Geor­gia; 10 grand­chil­dren: Jes­sica Crowl, Jen­nifer Scher­mer­horn, Joslyn Crowl, Lind­say Crowl, Loren Spauld­ing, Amanda Isgani­tis, Ken­neth Crowl, Shane, Richard and Robert Wag­ner; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother: William “Jim” Crowl of Sun­bury; sis­ters: Joan (Leo) Ulery of Iron­ton, and Jean Roy and Linda (Don) Kro­ninger, both of Sunbury.

Ser­vices were held Tues­day (Octo­ber 2) at the Sun­bury United Methodist Church. Bur­ial took place in Sun­bury Memo­r­ial Park. Arrange­ments were entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.
