Williams to speak at Harlem Twp. Heritage meeting
James L. Williams, professional surveyor from Gahanna, will speak on this topic at the November 8, 2012, meeting of Harlem Township Heritage, Inc. to be held at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Harlem Township Firehouse, 3883 South Ohio 605, Galena (the firehouse is on the south side of Center Village).
Williams’ book, Blazes, Posts & Stones: A History of Ohio’s Original Land Subdivisions, which is due to be released by the University of Akron Press in April, 2013. The book is the result of 27 years of research into the Government Records of Ohio lands. It contains 180 hand-drawn maps to illustrate the text. Williams spent five years writing the book. At the Harlem Township Heritage, Inc. meeting, Mr. Williams will give an illustrated presentation on some of the highlights of his book and highlights pertaining to our area — the western side of the U.S. Military District, a tract of 2,539,110 acres created on June 1, 1796, by the federal government.
The general public is invited to attend this presentation. There is no admission fee and light refreshments will be served. Harlem Township historical booklets prepared over the past three years will be available for sale with all proceeds from their sales going to the purchase of military flag holders for Harlem Township cemeteries and preservation of the township’’s historic cemeteries.
