Williams to speak at Harlem Twp. Heritage meeting

James L. Williams, pro­fes­sional sur­veyor from Gahanna, will speak on this topic at the Novem­ber 8, 2012, meet­ing of Harlem Town­ship Her­itage, Inc. to be held at 7 p.m. in the Com­mu­nity Room of the Harlem Town­ship Fire­house, 3883 South Ohio 605, Galena (the fire­house is on the south side of Cen­ter Village).

Williams’ book, Blazes, Posts & Stones: A His­tory of Ohio’s Orig­i­nal Land Sub­di­vi­sions, which is due to be released by the Uni­ver­sity of Akron Press in April, 2013. The book is the result of 27 years of research into the Gov­ern­ment Records of Ohio lands. It con­tains 180 hand-drawn maps to illus­trate the text. Williams spent five years writ­ing the book. At the Harlem Town­ship Her­itage, Inc. meet­ing, Mr. Williams will give an illus­trated pre­sen­ta­tion on some of the high­lights of his book and high­lights per­tain­ing to our area — the west­ern side of the U.S. Mil­i­tary Dis­trict, a tract of 2,539,110 acres cre­ated on June 1, 1796, by the fed­eral government.

The gen­eral pub­lic is invited to attend this pre­sen­ta­tion. There is no admis­sion fee and light refresh­ments will be served. Harlem Town­ship his­tor­i­cal book­lets pre­pared over the past three years will be avail­able for sale with all pro­ceeds from their sales going to the pur­chase of mil­i­tary flag hold­ers for Harlem Town­ship ceme­ter­ies and preser­va­tion of the township’’s his­toric cemeteries.
