The 2012 American cancer Society Relay For Life season ended on August 31, and already Big Walnut Relay For Life organizers are planning ahead to 2013’s June 7 and 8 Relay For Life at Big Walnut High School.
The 2013 Big Walnut Relay For Life Kick-off Party will be held this Saturday, November 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sunbury Skate Club, a.k.a. Big Walnut Skate Club, 345 McGill Street in Sunbury, behind VFW Post 8736.
“All Big Walnut residents are invited to help kick off the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Big Walnut,” said local ACS representative Andrea Perlman. “This community celebration is open to anyone who wants to learn more about Relay For Life and how to get involved.”
Perlman explained that Relay For Life is a community event that honors cancer survivors, current cancer patients and caregivers. Relay also pays tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer.
“The Relay For Life kick-off party is an opportunity for all Big Walnut residents to come together to kick off the Relay For Life of Big Walnut and learn more about the event and how to get involved,” Perlman said. “During kick-off, we’ll also be celebrating our success and enjoying a night at the Big Walnut Skate Club. Best of all, everyone is welcome.”
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors, as well as friends and family members lost to the disease.
“Attend our Kick-off Party,” Perlman added. “For more information about this event, please visit < RelayForLife.org/BigWalnut >. All relay teams signed up for the event by kick-off will receive prizes.”
