BW girls open with wins over Licking Heights, Franklin Heights

Big Walnut found its defensive form after allowing a 17-point first quarter, allowing just 12 points the rest of the way en route to a 49–29 non-league win over Licking Heights Tuesday evening in Sunbury.
Down 17–9 after one, the Golden Eagles (2–0) outscored the visitors 8–2 in the second, 11–4 in the third and 21–6 in the fourth.
Junior post Skylar Fleak led the way for the Golden Eagles with 12 points and eight rebounds in the win. Senior guard Samantha Klinedinst followed Fleak in double figures with 10 points while junior post Sara Petty followed with 9 points.
BIG WALNUT 61, FRANKLIN HEIGHTS 27 — The Golden Eagles were solid in their 2012–13 season opener last Friday night, dominating the host Falcons 61–27 in the season and Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division opener for both teams in Columbus.
Aside from a slight speed bump in the second quarter, Bob Scott’s Golden Eagles dominated as they jumped out to an 18–6 first-quarter lead. After breaking even with Heights in an 11–11 second quarter, Big Walnut (1–0) came back out after the intermission and put together a 16–6 spree in the third period to open up a 45–23 lead going into the final 8 minutes.
Senior forward Emily Chucta led the Eagles with 14 points. Junior post Sara Petty joined Chucta in double figures with 11 points while junior post Skylar Fleak and sophomore guard Makenna Hammond followed with 9 points apiece. Nine players scored for Big Walnut.
Cierra Thomas paced Franklin Heights (0–1) with 11 points.
