An accident early Monday evening at the intersection where Ohio 3 crosses South Miller Drive on the west and West Granville Street to the east sent three people to Riverside Hospital.
A black Chevrolet pickup truck collided with a gold minivan. BST&G Fire District first responders used the Jaws of Life to remove the passenger door of the pickup truck to treat one victim before removal from the vehicle.
BST&G Chief Jeff Wilson said the three people transported to Riverside were all in critical condition.
“I don’t think the injuries were life-threatening, but being elderly you never know,” Wilson said. “Usually we get a lot of little accidents at this intersection. This is the first serious accident we’ve had here in a long time.”
Chief Wilson said he did not know the cause of the accident, but the wet roadway may have been a factor.
In addition to firefighters and paramedics from BST&G, Delaware County Medic 2 was on scene, Harlem Fire Department sent a medic squad, and Harlem Township Division of Fire also responded to the accident.
Sunbury Police Department was at the scene as well as an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper.
Chief Wilson said he did not know which agency would be in charge of the accident investigation. The accident was inside Sunbury’s village limits, but Ohio 3 is a state roadway.
