Shelia Hiddleson named commissioner of Delaware Health District

The Delaware Board of Health has hired She­lia L. Hid­dle­son, RN, MS, as Health Com­mis­sioner for the Delaware Gen­eral Health District.

Ms. Hid­dle­son has been Health Com­mis­sioner for the Cham­paign Health Dis­trict in Cham­paign County, Ohio, since 2005. She will take over from Delaware Health Com­mis­sioner Frances M. Vev­erka, R.S., MPH, who is retir­ing after lead­ing the Delaware Gen­eral Health Dis­trict for 31 years.

The Delaware Board of Health hired Ms. Hid­dle­son at its meet­ing on Dec. 4. Com­mis­sion­ers Hid­dle­son and Vev­erka will work together dur­ing an ori­en­ta­tion period.

Ms. Hid­dle­son has worked in nurs­ing and Pub­lic Health since she obtained a diploma in nurs­ing from Jew­ish Hos­pi­tal School of Nurs­ing in St. Louis, Mo., in 1981. She has since obtained a Bach­e­lor of Sci­ence in Nurs­ing degree from Wright State Uni­ver­sity and a Mas­ter of Sci­ence in Admin­is­tra­tion from Cen­tral Michi­gan Uni­ver­sity, where she majored in Health Care Admin­is­tra­tion. She also has com­pleted the Cen­ters for Dis­ease Con­trol and Prevention’s Prin­ci­ples of Epi­demi­ol­ogy course.
