Several Big Walnut Area Historical Society (BWAHS) members have completed workshops at Myers Inn where they documented that they were descendants of War of 1812 and Civil War soldiers. The War of 1812 Bicentennial is in 2012 and the Civil War is commemorating its Sesquicentennial.
Certificates and medals were given at the November 13 at the Big Walnut Area Historical Society meeting to Warren Owen and Suzanne Link Allen, War of 1812 Descendants.
Owen’s Great-Great-Great-Grandfather was Sergeant Ebeneezer Goodrich of Israel P. Case’s Company.
Allen is a descendant of three War of 1812 veterans. Her Great-Great-Great-Grandfather was James Conner Sr. of Captain James Wallace’s Company; and she’s a Great-Great Niece of Sergeant Truman Perfect, Detachment 3rd Regiment (Renick’s), Ohio Militia, and Private James Perfect of Captain Murray’s Company, Cavalry, Ohio Militia.
Certificates and medals were given at the November meeting to Elizabeth Hoke Roberts and Roger Roberts, recognizing them as descendants of Civil war soldiers.
Elizabeth Hoke Roberts’ Great-Great-Grandfather was Private Samuel Hoke, Company D, 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiment, Pennsylvania.
Roger Roberts Great-Grandfather was Private Nelson L. Birney, Company F, 18th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
Continuing workshops for proving War of 1812 and Civil War Soldier ancestry will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m., the fourth Friday of each month at the Myers Inn Museum in Sunbury.
