Big Walnut Girl Scout Cookie sales underway locally
Girl Scout Cookies sales opened January 13 with Big Walnut Girl Scouts kicking off their sales locally with a Cookie Rally at the Galena United Methodist Church. Organized by Troop 2596, the event included a cookie sales cheer and a cookie tasting station. Girls also painted their nails in the colors of cookie boxes, made cookie theme bracelets, and decorated 3D glasses to watch a Girl Scouts 3D show online. They created signs to send with their cookie orders to their parents’ workplaces and practiced answering questions they might get from customers. And, they enjoyed an activity about sticking to their cookie goals.
This year’s cookie sales theme, “What Can a Girl Do?” reminds girls that they have the power to do anything! We all know the Girl Scout Cookie program, the biggest girl-led business in the world, is about so much more than exchanging a box of tasty treats for money. When a Girl Scout sells you a package of cookies, she’s doing much more. She’s creating a plan, interacting with customers, and working as part of a team, she’s also building a lifetime of skills and confidence. Selling cookies teaches her goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics—aspects essential to leadership, success and life.
Girls will take cookie orders through January 30. More than 150 girls from 20 troops in the Big Walnut Service Unit will hit the streets to sell to friends,
family, and neighbors.
Every box you buy can make a difference since Girl Scouts earn personal prizes and cash for their troops, raise money to benefit the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland Council, and build their business and financial savvy. Proceeds provide the financial assistance needed to make Girl Scouting available for all girls, to fund special events, keep program fees low, maintain campsites and train volunteers.
You may also purchase cookies to donate to the Gift of Caring, the Girl Scout community service project. Individual troops decide where to donate extra boxes such as to local nursing home residents or armed services units.
