Rep. Andy Brenner appointed vice-chair of Education Committee

House Speaker Bill Batchelder announced that Rep. Andrew Bren­ner (R-Powell) has been appointed as vice-chair of the House Edu­ca­tion Com­mit­tee for the 130th Gen­eral Assem­bly (2013–2014). In addi­tion, Rep. Bren­ner will con­tinue to serve on the Finan­cial Insti­tu­tions /Housing /Urban Devel­op­ment Com­mit­tee and the Rules and Ref­er­ence Com­mit­tee. Speaker Batchelder also appointed Bren­ner to the new Pol­icy and Leg­isla­tive Over­sight Committee.

“I am grate­ful to the Speaker for this appoint­ment and his faith in my abil­ity to serve the peo­ple of Ohio in this posi­tion. Reform­ing our edu­ca­tion sys­tem so that every child receives the best pos­si­ble edu­ca­tion is of the utmost impor­tance to me,” Bren­ner said. “ Work­ing with Chair­man Ste­bel­ton, Speaker Batchelder and Gov­er­nor Kasich, I look for­ward to help­ing to shape reforms to pos­i­tively impact our young people’s future.

Bren­ner was sworn-in on Jan­u­ary 7.

As State Rep­re­sen­ta­tive, Rep. Bren­ner received the 2011 “Defender of Lib­erty” award from the Amer­i­can Con­ser­v­a­tive Union and the 2012 Watch­dog of the Trea­sury Award. Rep. Bren­ner voted to elim­i­nate the death tax, bal­ance Ohio’s bud­get with­out rais­ing taxes, lower our taxes, bring jobs to Ohio, help make Ohio energy inde­pen­dent, help busi­nesses thrive, pro­tect the life of the unborn (includ­ing sup­port­ing the “heart­beat bill”) and pro­tect the Sec­ond Amendment.

Rep. Bren­ner intro­duced leg­is­la­tion to pro­vide more money for the edu­ca­tion sys­tem in Ohio with­out rais­ing our prop­erty taxes and to allow a private-sector solu­tion to train peo­ple for open jobs in Ohio.
