For The Sunbury News
Big Walnut High School’s production of the musical Guys and Dolls is currently in rehearsal and on its way to becoming a local hit. With actors Josh Schirtzinger as Sky Masterson, Allison Dawson as Sarah Brown, Thomas Hamann playing Nathan Detroit and Olivia Beckett as the lovely Adelaide, the show is bound to bring the late 1940’s and early 50’s swinging back to Sunbury with style.
The classic show, written by Frank Loesser and based on Abe Burrows’ and Joe Swerling’s book The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown, is the tale of New York’s gambling underworld and an unexpected love encounter between an uptight Salvation Army woman and one of the most notorious gamblers of the era.
You’ll see comedy from Nathan’s loyal pals Nicely-Nicely Johnson (Kaden Thompson), Benny Southstreet (Nick Guglielmi) and Rusty Charlie (James Sawyers); entertainment from Miss Adelaide and her hotbox debutants; and familiar songs such as Bushel and a Peck and Luck be a Lady.
Grab your favorite guy or doll and head on down to Big Walnut High School on February 21, 22 and 23 to get in on the action.
Tickets will be available at the door starting at 6 p.m. for $8 general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.
The doors open at 7 p.m. so hurry down and claim your seats.
Guys and Dolls is the second high school production the Drama Club is staging this school year. A third production, the musical Godspell, will take to the stage on March 21, 22 and 23.
Hope to see you there.
