Super Bowl XLVII is in the history books, March Madness is on the distant horizon, but what kind of a sporting challenge can be found to fill the time in between? No problem, said Community Library’s Head of Youth Services Fonda Kendrick. You can get out your favorite recipe, roll up your sleeves and participate in the Community Library Cupcake Challenge for teens and adults.
“Since cupcakes are very popular right now, we thought we would give a Cupcake Challenge a try,” Kendrick said. “We have several good cookbooks for cupcakes here at the library, and there are also lots of ideas online for unusual cupcake recipes. One of the books the library owns even shows you how to make cupcakes that look like shoes.”
Kendrick said as part of the Cupcake Challenge contestants are asked to find not only a cupcake recipe with a great flavor, but also to make cupcakes that also have artistic, creative appeal.
Community Library’s Cupcake Challenge will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 23. There will be two judging categories: one for Young Adults ages 12 to 18 and another for Adults ages 19 and on up. First place winners will receive $25 cash for Young Adults, Amazon gift card for adults, with the Young Adult prize donated by Kristi’s Bakery in Centerburg. There will be additional prizes for second and third place winners.
“To participate in the Community Library Cupcake Challenge contestants must register at the library’s circulation desk to receive contest rules,” Kendrick said. “And I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries.”
Community Library is located at 44 Burrer Drive, Sunbury.
