Near the end of 2012 former Sunbury Village Council member Bill Metzler resigned with one year remaining in his term in office.

Metzler’s resignation was effective December 31. According to Sunbury Village Council Rules, village council members had 30 days to select Metzler’s replacement. If they failed to do so within that time frame the new council member would become a mayoral appointment.

Following several weeks of notices in local media and on the village website, only one firm candidate stepped forward offering to fill the vacated one-year term, Scott Weatherby.

Scott Weatherby is the son of former mayor and current council member Len Weatherby, who also sits on the Village of Sunbury Planning & Zoning Commission.

A Sunbury native and father of three who lives in Sunbury Meadows, Scott works with Ohio Health creating hospital business plans.

When asked why he wanted to serve on Sunbury Village Council Scott said he wants to be involved in the community he grew up in and lives in.

“I want my three sons to know their father is involved in things,” he said. “I’m proud of the way my father has raised me,” he added when asked if he could be impartial sharing the dais with his father. “I’m proud that he’s raised me to have my own opinions.”

Council members unanimously approved a motion for Scott Weatherby to fill the remainder on Metzler’s term on council.
