During last Thursday evening’s Genoa Township Board of Trustees meeting, the trustees reminded everyone that the Genoa Township Development & Zoning Office, as part of a comprehensive planning process, is administering a community survey.
Township residents are encouraged to complete the survey online at < genoatwp.com >, or request a print copy of the survey by calling the administration office at 614–895-1126 ext 0. The survey will be available through April; results will be publicly presented as a part of the Comprehensive Plan.
Genoa maintenance and roads supervisor Bob Mathews gave trustees an update on the township’s sidewalk repair plans.
Mathews said the township has been broken up into four quadrants for sidewalk inspection purposes, with quads one, three and four already inspected.
Following completion of the inspections township residents will have the option of repairing sidewalks that do not meet code, or allow the township to have the sidewalks repaired and the cost added to their tax assessment. Because of the larger number of sidewalks on the township’s repair list, the cost to individual residents would be lower than if each resident were to hire a contractor.
Mathews said repairs to Zone 1 would be completed in 2014; Zone 2 in 2015; and Zones 3 and 4 in 2016. Mathews also noted that 178 township intersections require ADA sidewalk panels.
“It will cost about $80,000 to do Zone 1, and we would pick up the cost of the ADA panels,” Mathews said.
The trustees approved the purchase of two new pickup trucks.
“These are on the replacement schedule, one is 11 years old, one is 12 years old,” Mathews said. “A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 for Buildings and Grounds will cost $21,413, and a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado for the Maintenance Department is $19,600. Both are state bid items, both are from White-Allen Chevrolet.”
In other business, the trustees encouraged families to attend the annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 23 at Westerville Central High School. Over 15,000 candy-filled Easter eggs will be spread on the football field for children to collect. Activities begin at 10 a.m., the egg hunt begins at 11.
The trustees encouraged township residents to attend a gardening clinic at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, in the Genoa Township Hall. The clinic is offered free of charge by the Delaware County OSU Extension Office.
Trustee Barb Lewis said that the trustees have expressed support of the neighborhood school alternatives to the Westerville City School District as they consider re-districting their local elementary schools.

Residents are encouraged to stop by introduce themselves, get to know their representative in the Ohio House of Representatives and discuss any issues that they would like to see supported in the State House.
