Piper named Second Team All-OAC at Otterbein

Otter­bein Uni­ver­sity sopho­more Tabatha Piper, a 2011 grad­u­ate of Big Wal­nut High School, has been selected to a Sec­ond Team berth on the 2013 All-Ohio Ath­letic Con­fer­ence (OAC) women’s bas­ket­ball team.

Piper, who was named the OAC “Fresh­man of the Year” in 2012, fol­lowed with her solid sec­ond col­le­giate cam­paign by rank­ing sec­ond in scor­ing with 9.5 points per game and tying for the team lead in rebound­ing with 6.9 rebound per game with Car­di­nal senior Han­nah Day (Chillicothe).

Piper started all 27 games for the Car­di­nals and scored in dou­ble fig­ures 11 times. She scored a career-high 20 points in just 26 min­utes of action against Mari­etta Col­lege this past December.

Otter­bein posted a 21–6 record and a second-place fin­ish in OAC reg­u­lar sea­son play with a 14–4 record, even­tu­ally falling to No. 3-ranked Ohio North­ern Uni­ver­sity (26–1) in the tour­na­ment cham­pi­onship. The Car­di­nals received an at-large bid to the NCAA Divi­sion III Tour­na­ment, their first bid in pro­gram his­tory, and trav­eled to Green­cas­tle, Indi­ana, for an opening-round matchup against Maryville (Tenn.), los­ing 68–61.
