Palmer named BW girls basketball coach
Sophomore shortstop Erica Bryan (Wapakoneta) drove in 2 runs and junior righthander Amanda Barker (Granville) hurled a complete-game victory as Ohio Wesleyan edged Mount St. Mary 5-3 in non-conference action on Friday in Cape Coral, Fla.
After the teams traded runs in the first inning, the Bishops took the lead for good with 3 runs in the second.
The Knights closed the gap to 4-2 in the top of the sixth, only to see Ohio Wesleyan get the run back in the bottom of the frame.
Bryan went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, while junior catcher Brooke Nethers (Newark/Licking Valley) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 stolen bases, and senior first baseman Jackie Kolovich (Newton Falls/Warren Kennedy) was 2-for-3 with 2 stolen bases.
Barker went the distance in the circle.
St. Joseph’s 1, Ohio Wesleyan 0
St. Joseph’s pushed across the game’s only run during the top of the fifth inning, and the Monks withstood a Bishop rally to hold on for a non-conference win on Friday in Cape Coral, Fla.
Lindsay Moore led off the Monks’ fifth with a single to shortstop, and after Theresa Hendrix fouled out for the second out, Moore stole second and advanced to third before scoring on Maria Labbe’s single to center.
Ohio Wesleyan threatened in the bottom of the seventh as sophomore righthander Tamra Londot (Utica) legged out a one-out infield single, took second on a passed ball and moved to third on a wild pitch. Junior catcher Brooke Nethers (Newark/Licking Valley) followed with a walk, knocking out St. Joseph’s starter Maddie Kluna in favor of Hendrix. Nethers stole second, putting the winning run in scoring position, but Hendrix came back to strike out Bryan and senior second baseman Abby Walsh (Millville, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) to end the game.
Sophomore righthander Dani Haley (Maumee/Anthony Wayne) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan.
