Typically, Sunbury Village Council member meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month, and have a third monthly meeting during months with a fifth Wednesday on the calendar.

However, due to this year’s New Year’s Eve falling on Tuesday, and New Year’s Day on Wednesday, Sunbury Village Council members have agreed to move the first Village Council meeting of 2014 to Wednesday, January 8.

The Wednesday, January 8, meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the swearing in of Council members Tom Zalewski, Dave Miller and Scott Weatherby, who ran unopposed during the November election.

Zalewski was reelected to his seat at the dais; Weatherby and Miller were Council appointees who were each elected to serve four-year terms in office.

One Council seat remains open. After Zalewski, Weatherby and Miller are sworn in to office the seated Council members will review resumes and interview potential candidates, before making their selection of a candidate.

Council member Joe Gochenour, also a Council appointee, had not run for reelection in November, but has since indicated that he would accept a four-year term if he were selected to serve.

There will not be any committee meetings prior to the January 8 meeting. The first meeting of any calendar year is Council’s annual reorganization meeting. During the session Council members will select a President of Council; then the President of Council will make committee appointments for the calendar year.
