Big Walnut drops matches to Olentangy, Whitehall

The Golden Eagles came up short on the mats their last two outings.
On Thursday, January 23, Olentangy posted a 58-18 Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division decision over host Big Walnut in Sunbury. One day earlier, the Golden Eagles dropped a 37-32 match to visiting Whitehall in a Division II State Dual Meet on January 22.
The Braves won 10 weight classes, six by falls in Thursday’s makeup match. Scoring pins were Braden Held over Matt Russell in 1 minute, 15 seconds at 120 pounds, Jared Wise over Drew Cochran in 3:00 at 132, Mike Thomas over Hartley in 0:40 at 152, Stratton over Evan Watkins at 182 in 2:56, Connor Slade over Daniel Zitello at 195 in 1:36 and Jimmy Elmurr at 220 in 2:57 over Austin Crow.
Kyler Slade and Cody Pollitt scored technical falls for Olentangy, Slade 17-0 over Jack Schnurr at 145 and Pollitt 15-0 over Austin Carr at 160 pounds.

Jaydon Hill, competing at 106 pounds, and Chris Crumb, at 285, both won by forfeit for the Braves.

Big Walnut’s wins were recorded by RJ Martin, Alec Eisnnicher, Matt Halbakken and Alec Eisnnicher. Martin posted an 11-5 decision over Max Hall at 138, Eisnnicher pinned Clayton Higginbotham in 1:41 at 170, Halbakken decisioned Devins Fajardo by a 11-5 score at 126 pounds, and Grier pinned Brian Hallier in 0:44 at 113 pounds.


Whitehall 37, BIG WALNUT 32

The Golden Eagles prevailed on seven mats against the Rams.

Anthony Pisano, Alec Eisnnicher and Austin Crow recorded pins, Pisano in 1 minute, 8 seconds at 152; Eisnnicher in 1 minute, 15 seconds at 170; and Crow in 16 seconds at 220 pounds.

 Major decisions were scored by RJ Martin with a 16-6 victory at 145 and Austin Carr who prevailed 16-7 at 160.

Matt Halbakken and Drew Cochran completed the Golden Eagles’ scoring, Halbakken with 9-8 decision at 126 and Cochran with a 12-6 decision at 133 pounds.
