Jesse Ansley’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave visiting Marion Harding a 63-61 non-conference overtime decision — and their first win of the season — over host Big Walnut last Tuesday night (January 21) in Sunbury.
Big Walnut (7-8), after falling behind 13-7 after the opening quarter, looked to be on its way to a victory as the Golden Eagles outscored Harding 35-22 in the second and third periods to take a 42-35 lead into the final quarter.
Marion Harding (1-13), led by Alex Krogman’s 9 points, battled back in the fourth quarter with a 19-12 run to send the contest into the extra session deadlocked at 54-54 and setting the stage for Ansley’s game-winning shot.
Tyler Longstreth, with three threes, paced the Presidents with 17 points. Quinnten McComas backed Longstreth with 13 while Krogman finished with a dozen. Ansley, with his game-winning trey, one of seven Harding 3-pointers, finished with 5 points.
Logan Boyd, who drilled a pair of threes, and Zac Asher, back in action after sitting out the Olentangy game with injuries, led Big Walnut with 21 and 17 points, respectively. Nick Herbert joined Boyd and Asher in double figures with 11 points.
