Every day, Ohio senior volunteers generously give their time and service to help others; and now there’s a chance to give something back by nominating a deserving older adult in the local community for his or her outstanding service through the Salute to Senior Service® program.
Sponsored by Home Instead, Inc., the franchiser of the Home Instead Senior Care® network, Salute to Senior Service recognizes the invaluable contributions of adults age 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.
“Seniors have so much to give and make a positive impact on our communities daily,” said Nancy Barrett, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Franklin and Delaware counties. “Senior volunteerism not only benefits others, but also helps seniors stay active and socially engaged in their communities — important elements of healthy aging.”
Members of the community are asked to nominate and vote for these everyday heroes before March 1 at SalutetoSeniorService.com. State winners will be determined by popular vote. A panel of senior care experts will then select a national Salute to Senior Service winner from among the state honorees.
Home Instead, Inc. will donate $500 to each of the state winners’ designated and approved nonprofit organizations, and their personal stories will be shared online on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame. In addition, $5,000 will be donated to the national winner’s designated and approved nonprofit charity.
To complete and submit an online nomination form for a senior age 65 or older who volunteers at least 15 hours a month, and to view the contest’s official rules, visit < SalutetoSeniorService.com >.
Completed nomination forms can also be mailed to Salute to Senior Service, P.O. Box 285, Bellevue, NE 68005.

Founded in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Lori and Paul Hogan, the Home Instead Senior Care network is the world’s largest provider of non-medical in-home care services for seniors, with nearly 1,000 independently owned and operated franchises providing in excess of 45 million hours of care throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Switzerland, Germany, South Korea, Finland, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands and Mexico.
Local Home Instead Senior Care offices employ more than 65,000 CAREGivers worldwide who provide basic support services — assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), personal care, medication reminders, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands, incidental transportation and shopping — which enable seniors to live safely and comfortably in their own homes for as long as possible.
In addition, CAREGivers are trained in the network’s groundbreaking Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias CARE: Changing Aging Through Research and Education Program to work with seniors who suffer from these conditions. This world-class curriculum is also available free to family caregivers online or through local Home Instead Senior Care offices.
