During the entire month of May, the Humane Society of Delaware County (HSDC) will be holding a “Back in Black” adoption special where pets with black in their fur can be adopted at a special price. This is being held in conjunction with a nationwide event sponsored by Best Friends’ No More Homeless Animals Network to increase the awareness and adoptions of black and mostly black cats and dogs.
HSDC will be offering discounted adoption fees based on the amount of shimmering black fur in the animal’s coat. A solid black cat or dog will receive a $40 discount. If an animal is mostly black, $30 will be deducted from their fee. Pets who are half black will be $20 off, and those with just a little black in their fur will receive a $10 discount.
“Solid black animals usually wait longer in shelters to find homes because they are overlooked based on silly myths and superstitions,” said HSDC shelter director Heidi Myers. “They are just as loving, devoted and wonderful as their more colorful counterparts.”
The public is invited to come meet the adoption hopefuls during HSDC’s new spring hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The shelter is closed on Mondays. To view some of the pets currently available, you may also visit their website at < www.hsdcohio.org >.
HSDC is located at 4920 Ohio 37 East in Delaware. For more information, please call 740-369-7387. To learn about the Fourth Annual “Back in Black” promotion sponsored by Best Friends Network, visit < www.bestfriends.org/backinblack >.
