BW runs rules New Albany, 11-1

Kyle Duncan paced Big Walnut (14-12, 6-8 OCC) to an 11-1 Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division victory over New Albany Saturday at New Albany. The game was called after 5 innings by the run rule.

Duncan went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a run and 4 runs batted in. He started on the mound and went the distance for the win, allowing an earned run on 3 hits and a base on balls. He struck out 2.

Joining Duncan in the Golden Eagles 11-hit attack were Michael Blackburn who was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI; Matt Tarney, who was 2-for-3 with 2 runs and an RBI; and Brayden Shepherd who was 1-for-4 with 2 runs and 3 runs batted in.

BIG WALNUT 15, FRANKLIN HEIGHTS 4 — An 8-0 run over the final three innings, including a 5-run outburst in the top of the seventh, powered the Golden Eagles to last Friday’s (May 9) 11-run Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division decision over the host Golden Falcons in Columbus.

Kyle Duncan led Big Walnut’s 15-hit attack with a 3-for-5 performance that included a run and a run batted in. Brayden Shepherd, despite having only one hit in 4 trips, had a productive day at the plate with a run scored and 6 runs batted in.

Nick Moser turned in another productive day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a triple, 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and an RBI. Jeremy Bok, 2-for-4 with a double and 3 runs, and Chad Little, 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, chipped in multi-hit performances. Brayden Shepherd, despite having only one hit in 4 trips, had a productive day with a run scored and 6 runs batted in.

Brandon Daniels made the mound start for Big Walnut, allowing 4 runs, 2 earned, on 6 hits, 2 walks and a hit batter. He struck out 2. Shepherd came on in relief in the fifth, blanking the Falcons on no hits over the final 2 1/3 innings, walking one and fanning 2.

BIG WALNUT 7, FRANKLIN HEIGHTS 3 — The Golden Eagles took advantage of their opportunities.

Big Walnut (11-12, 4-8 OCC), eyeing a winning regular-season campaign, turned 7 hits and 4 bases on balls into a 7-3 Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division victory over Franklin Heights on Senior Night Wednesday, May 7 in Sunbury.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead on singles by Brayden Shepherd and Jeremy Bok who came around to score on Kyle Duncan’s 2-out double down the left field line.

Franklin Heights (3-16, 0-11 OCC), taking advantage of 2 the Golden Eagles 4 errors, rallied for 2 unearned runs off Big Walnut starting and winning pitcher Jeremy Bok in the top of the third to tie the game at 2-2.

Big Walnut regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the third. Nick Moser led off the inning by being hit by a pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch and stole third, setting up Matt Tarney’s sacrifice fly for a 3-2 lead.

The Golden Eagles broke the game open with 4 runs in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. With one out, Jakob Evans and Ryan Grieser drew walks before Brandon Daniels reached an a error scoring Evans. Mike Blackburn moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt before Moser delivered a double down the left field line which scored both runners. Moser came home on Shepherd’s single to center.

The Falcons scored in the sixth on catcher’s interference, a stolen base, an error and a ground ball out.

Bok, who drew the starting assignment as a senior on Senior Night, went the distance to record the mound win for Big Walnut. In his 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, on 2 hits. He did not issue a base on balls while striking out 7.
