Big Walnut’s Austin Schone captured the 13-15 Age Division during the second week of play in Heart of Ohio Junior Golf Association (HOJGA) on Thursday, June 19 at Kings Mills Golf Club neat Waldo.
Schone, who placed second in the 13-15 Division with a round of 80 in the opening week of play on June 10 at Lincoln Hills, came back with a 39-39 — 78 at Kings Mills. Schone’s 18-hole round over the par-included 10 pars and one birdie as he finished 6 strokes ahead of Fairbanks’ Todd Crowe (41-43 — 84) and Mount Gilead’s Zack Hosack (43-41 — 84). Kenton’s Braytton Krock and Marion Pleasant’s Griffin McCloy tied for fourth with 77s.
Big Walnut’s Benjamin Momemi placed 11th with a 57-63 — 120 in the 13-15 group.
In other age divisions River Valley’s Caden Orewiler, with 11 pars and 3 birdies, finished atop the 16-18 Division with a one-over-par round of 36-35 — 71. Pleasant’s Dustin Sites followed Orewiler with a 75 while Marion Elgin’s Lucas Haycook came in third with a 76. River Valley’s Brock Faulkner and Wynford’s Nate Smith shared fourth with cards of 77.
Upper Sandusky’s Brett Montgomery took top honors in the 12-and-Under 9-Hole Division for the second straight week with a 9-hole round of 43. Pleasant’s Mason Rinehart, carding a 47, edged Fairbanks’ Alex Crowe who posted a 48. Cardington’s Nathan Stewart and Galion’s Rece Payne finished fourth and fifth with respective rounds of 51 and 52.
At the HOJGA’s June 10 event at Lincoln Hills, Faulkner won 16-18 Age Division with a 4-over-par 38-38 — 76. Faulkner’s scorecard showed 10 pars and 2 birdies. Smith placed second behind Faulkner with an 81. Ridgemont’s Devin Mouser and Haycook tied for third with 86s. Colonel Crawford’s Noah Trease came in fifth with an 88.
McCloy carded a 37-39 — 76 to take the 13-15 Age Division. McCloy’s round included 14 pars and 2 birdies. Following Schone in the third spot were Marion Harding’s Kameron Hall with an 82. Todd Crowe was fourth with an 84 while River Valley’s David Chapman came in fifth with an 85. BW’s Michael Ruark was ninth with a 97.
Montgomery paced the 12-and-Under 9-Hole Division with a 43 with Stewart taking with a 50 and Rinehart taking third with a 51. Alex Crowe and Payne shared fourth with rounds of 60.
The next HOJGA stop on its 2014 tour is was Wednesday (June 25) at the Marysville Golf Club.
