Genoa officer assaulted last Thursday morning

At 5:20 a.m. last Thursday Genoa Township Police Lieut. Greg Yurkovich approached two suspicious individuals with a work van at the Red Bank Harbor area when the two men assaulted him. Lieut. Yurkovich was able to activate his radio’s emergency button before the men began dragging him towards a wooded area.

An emergency button alerts dispatchers to send all available officers in the area to provide assistance. A police source said approaching sirens might have prevented the assailants from doing further harm to Yurkovich, who was unresponsive when officers arrived at the scene.

After Yurkovich was released from Grant Medical Center Friday afternoon Genoa Township Police Chief Robert Taylor issued a press release stating that due to information and tips that the Genoa Township Police Department and Delaware County Sheriff’s office have received from the public, a task force was being assembled to investigate the assault.

Galena Bridge closed until October 21

Remember the old Bert and I comedy albums, loaded with Down East, State of Maine type humor? A guy pulls his car up in front of Bert’s house and asks him how to get to East Vasselborrough. Bert tells him: “You cain’t get they’ah from he’ah.”

Well if you’re leaving Galena for points east and want to use the Sunbury Road Bridge to get out of town, Bert would switch to an Ohio accent and tell you that you can’t get there from here.
