Village to proceed with aggregation following second Public Hearing

Mem­bers of Sun­bury Vil­lage Coun­cil held their sec­ond required pub­lic hear­ing last Wednes­day (Novem­ber 28) before they could vote to pro­ceed with elec­tric and nat­ural gas aggre­ga­tion pro­grams for vil­lage res­i­den­tial and small busi­ness customers.

Sunbury Council holds first aggregation public hearing

Sun­bury Vil­lage Coun­cil mem­bers held a spe­cial coun­cil meet­ing last Tues­day (Novem­ber 20) evening, pre­ceded by the first of two pub­lic hear­ings required by the Pub­lic Util­i­ties Com­mis­sion of Ohio before the vil­lage files papers to pro­ceed with res­i­den­tial and small busi­ness elec­tric and nat­ural gas aggregation.

District on solid track to make 5-year levy last

Over the past four years, as the econ­omy crashed, burned, and tried to recover it seemed each time Big Wal­nut Local School Dis­trict Trea­surer Feli­cia Drum­mey reported rev­enue to board of edu­ca­tion mem­bers it was either going down, or stay­ing flat.

But the econ­omy may be turn­ing around; at least as it impacts school dis­trict rev­enue. In her finan­cial report to mem­bers of the board Mon­day evening Drum­mey said income tax for the last quar­ter, received in Octo­ber, came in $143,000 higher than projected.

Sunbury step closer to aggregation

For nearly two years the Vil­lage of Sun­bury has been explor­ing acquir­ing elec­tric­ity for vil­lage facil­i­ties through an aggre­ga­tion agree­ment as a cost sav­ings mea­sure; and has also moved towards elec­tric and nat­ural gas aggre­ga­tion options for vil­lage res­i­dents by plac­ing elec­tric and gas aggre­ga­tion issues on the Novem­ber 8, 2011, ballot.

Merrell captures County Commissioner seat

Polit­i­cal new­comer Gary Mer­rell emerged vic­to­ri­ous Tues­day in his first ever gen­eral elec­tion race.
Mer­rell, the for­mer Delaware Gazette/Sunbury News pub­lisher, defeated Demo­c­rat John Hart­man 65 per­cent to 35 per­cent based on com­plete but unof­fi­cial results with the Delaware County Board of Elections.

BW schools earn Ohio’s highest rating — Excellent with Distinction

The Big Wal­nut Local School Dis­trict earned top hon­ors from the state, Excel­lent with Dis­tinc­tion, for the 2011-12 school year; the first year the dis­trict has earned the top rat­ing. The dis­trict received an Excel­lent rat­ing each of the pre­vi­ous six years.

Sunbury/Big Walnut Area Chamber Candidates’ Night tonight

The Sunbury/Big Wal­nut Area Cham­ber of Com­merce, in part­ner­ship with the East­ern Delaware County Repub­li­can Club and the Delaware County Demo­c­ra­tic Party, is pleased to spon­sor “Meet the Can­di­dates” night in Sun­bury. The pub­lic is invited and encour­aged to attend to learn about the can­di­dates for office and the issues that will be on the Novem­ber 6 bal­lot.
This event will be today (Thurs­day, Octo­ber 25) begin­ning at 7:30 p.m. in the Big Wal­nut High School cafeteria.

AEP addresses area power outages

Sun­bury and Galena area AEP cus­tomers have been expe­ri­enc­ing what they con­sider to be more than their fair share of power out­ages over the past sev­eral years. Those out­ages also impact the Sun­bury and Galena waste­water treat­ment plants, both vil­lages’ admin­is­tra­tion oper­a­tions, and are an incon­ve­nience for local busi­ness owners.
