DELPHOS — A Delphos police officer used his Taser on Monday evening on a Lima man sought in connection with a police call in the early hours on Sunday and later found to be wanted on an arrest warrant issued by Allen County.

Officers responded to a call at 1:17 a.m. Sunday regarding a male reported trying to enter a residence in the 900 block of South Bredeick Street, Delphos. The officer identified the man, who had a strong odor of alcohol, as Marcus Backus, 18, of Lima. Backus fled on foot and was unable to be located.

At 8:25 p.m. Monday, officers located Backus in the 200 block of West Clime Street, where he attempted to flee again. An officer shot Backus in the back with his Taser. Backus was charged with obstructing official business and underage consumption.

Backus was transported to the Van Wert County Jail. Upon his release, he will be transferred to Allen County to face charges associated with the warrant for failure to appear on a dangerous drug charge in Allen County.
