The first thing Manager Bill Lowe mentioned about this year’s Delaware County Fair was the entertainment.

“The Willis Clan just got eliminated from America’s Got Talent, but they’ve been compared to the Von Trapp family,” Lowe said of the country group, who will perform at the Grandstand on opening night. “They’re a family that sings, dances and plays multiple instruments.”

The Marshall Tucker Band will perform on Sept. 15, with fellow southern rockers Wet Willie opening for them. Lowe said it will be like old times, because these two veteran groups used to tour together.

On the fair’s last night, local favorites Phil Dirt & the Dozers will perform. The big-name entertainment is part of an attempt to improve the quality of the fair, Lowe said.

This year’s motor sports lineup includes two new events, Lowe said – a mini tractor pull and run-what-you-brung drag racing, along with the popular demolition derby and lawnmower races.

There will be four days harness racing at this year’s fair, and Lowe said that judging by the number of entrants, he was cautiously optimistic about having five days of racing next year.

The Fair’s marquee event, the 69th edition of the Little Brown Jug, will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network. Lowe said a couple of prior Jugs had aired on one of the ESPN networks, but the Fair paid to have it air. This time around, Fazoli’s restaurants provided the sponsorship funding.

“It’s neat to be able to showcase Delaware to the whole community. It will create some new fans and give us some additional exposure,” Lowe said. “Maybe people watching it will say I want to come and see it in person.”

Lowe said that with good weather, he hopes 175,000 people will come and see the fair in person this year.

Another incentive to attend the Fair is that some of the admission prices have been lowered. For example, general admission for adults on Jug Day will be reduced from $20 to $15 until 2 p.m., and then down to $6 after that. In addition, admission on the last two days will be reduced from $6 to $5.
