Immediately preceding Friday evening’s Big Walnut High School Winter Homecoming basketball game against visiting Franklin Heights, members of the Winter Homecoming Court were introduced and the 2013/14 Winter Homecoming King Grant Burks and Queen Erin Wetzel were crowned.


Erin Wetzel, the daughter of Scott and Tami Wetzel, is Student Council Co-President, Vice President of the National Honor Society and a member of the varsity football and basketball cheerleading squads. Erin said she is unsure about where she wants to attend college in the fall, but plans on majoring in Pre-Optometry to become an eye doctor.


Grant Burks, the son of Dave and Darlene and the brother of Sydney and Tyler, is a former member of the Big Walnut football, basketball and track teams as well as being a member of the bowling and tennis teams. Grant said he is also a proud member of the 2005 Saints Little League Championship team.


Additional Homecoming Queen candidates were Leah Shaw and Olivia Daggett; the other Homecoming King candidates were Joey Steller and Ryan Grieser.


Leah, the daughter of Dan and Marsha and the sister of Kyle, Kevin and Aaron, is a member of the Big Walnut varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams. She is also a member of Student Council, Class Officers and National Honor Society. Leah said she hasn’t decided on which college she will be attending in the fall, but she will be majoring in education to one day teach high school English.


Olivia, the daughter of Tom and Stephanie Daggett, is a member of NHS, Spanish Club, Mock Trial, and Golden Eagle Marching Band. She competes in two seasons of track and joined cross country for the first time this year. Next fall she hopes to attend The Ohio State University or Miami University to become either a prosecuting attorney or a physical therapist to help recovering athletes.


Joey, the son of Greg and Laurie and big brother of Dan, Timmy and Molly, is a member of the Big Walnut football team, baseball team and bowling team. He is also a proud member of the 2005 Saints Little League Championship team. Joey said he plans to attend the University of Cincinnati and major in nursing.


Homecoming court members were freshmen Caroline Craig-Bowden and Nahome Buckles, sophomores Sam Grumney and Hayden D’amico, and juniors Sarah Bickle and Will Smith.


The Homecoming Court Princess was GRE Kindergarten student Mia Gianettino; the Homecoming Court Prince was Logan Grieser. Passing down the crown was last year’s Winter Homecoming Queen Sydney Hatfield.
