Big Walnut captured six weight classes at last Thursday’s Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division 45-28 dual match setback at the hands of visiting Olentangy Orange in Sunbury.
Seniors Alec Eisnnicher and Austin Crow joined sophomore Wes Landrum with pins for the Golden Eagles. Eisnnicher pinned the Pioneers’ Hunter Knipp in 1 minute, 52 seconds, at 170 pounds; Crow stopped Nicholas Lee in 0:48 seconds at 220; and Landrum scored his fall over David Schrader in 5:21 at 120 pounds.
Freshman Matt Halbakken joined seniors RJ Martin and Austin Carr with decisions for Big Walnut. Halbakken was a 18-10 victor over Nate Metzger at 126, Martin posted 15-9 decision over Alec Farmer at 138 and Carr was an 8-2 winner over Connor Ryan at 160.
Orange scored six pins en route to the victory with senior Grant Stewart winning in 4:48 over Nate Helsley at 106, junior Mike McQueeney over Nico Grier in 5:13 at 113, sophomore Chris Wallace over Drew Cochran in 5:41 at 132, freshman Logan Broskie over Jack Schnurr in 1:23 at 145, junior Hayden Knapp over Anthony Pisano in 3:05 at 152 and senior Lenns Kamba over Tyler Hogg in 1:30 at 105 pounds.
Freshman Emerson Milner contributed a 7-0 decision over Evan Watkins at 182 while sophomore Albert Van Fossen was awarded a forfeit at 285 pounds.
The Golden Eagles travel to Mount Vernon today (Thursday, February 6) for a 6 p.m. OCC Capital Division match with the host Yellow Jackets.
Big Walnut will hold its annual Senior Recognition/Alumni Day on Saturday, February 8, when the host Whitehall in a non-conference match at 10 a.m. at the high school.
