Big Walnut wrestlers have busy week

It was a busy weekend for the Big Walnut wrestling team, hosting Johnstown Northridge and Shawnee on Saturday (February 8) after a trip to Mount Vernon last Thursday (February 6) for an Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division match with the host Yellow Jackets.


Mount Vernon prevailed with a 66-18 decision over the Golden Eagles.


Seniors Austin Carr (170 pounds), Alec Eisnnicher (182) and Austin Crow (285) were awarded forfeits to account for Big Walnut’s points


The Golden Eagles posted two victories in Saturday’s duals, doubling up on Johnstown Northridge 54-27 before pinning a 54-24 decision on Shawnee at Big Walnut High School.


In the match with the Vikings, senior RJ Martin and sophomore Nico Grier recorded victories for the Golden Eagles, Martin scoring a pin in 49 seconds at 138 pounds and Grier in 57 seconds at 113 pounds,


Northridge forfeited matches to sophomore Anthony Pisano at 152 pounds, junior Michael Nash at 182, sophomore Evan Watkins at 195, sophomore Tyler Hogg at 220 and freshman Luke Starkey at 285 as well as to Carr at 160 and Eisnnicher at 170 pounds.


In the Golden Eagles’ victory over Shawnee, Eisnnicher and Pisano posted pins for Big Walnut, Eisnnicher downing his opponent in 1 minutes, 15 seconds while Pisano was victorious in 28 seconds.


Eight weight classes were forfeited by Shawnee with freshman Nate Helsley (106 pounds), sophomore Wes Landrum (120) and freshman Carson Dearth (132), joining Grier (113), Nash (182), Watkins (195), Hogg (220) and Starkey (285) in the win column.
