Big Walnut qualified eight wrestlers from the Licking Valley Sectional held Saturday, February 15 to the Division II Central District Tournament on February 21-22 at Uhrichsville Claymont High School.
The Golden Eagles placed third at the Sectional with 164 points behind Licking Valley (193.5 points) and Granville (177). Leading Big Walnut’s District qualifiers was senior Alec Eisnnicher who claimed a Sectional title at 170 pounds. Qualifying with seconds were sophomore Wes Landrum at 120 pounds, senior RJ Martin at 138 and senior Austin Carr at 160. Third-place qualifiers were freshman Nate Helsley at 106 and sophomore Nico Grier at 113. Advancing with fourth-place finishes were sophomore Evan Watkins at 182 and senior Austin Crow at 220.
Placing at the sectionals for Big Walnut were freshman Matt Halbakken (126) and sophomore Drew Cochran (132) who placed fifth and sophomore Anthony Pisano (152) and sophomore Tyler Hogg (220) who placed sixth.
Completing the team standings were Bloom Carroll, 111.5 points; St. Francis DeSales, 91.0; Columbus Centennial, 77.0; Mifflin, 74.5;
Columbus Marion-Franklin, 67.0; Heath, 54.0; Bishop Watterson, 45.0; Columbus Eastmoor Academy, 34.0; Columbus Linden McKinley, 34.0; Columbus Independence, 30.5; and Columbus East, 25.0.
