Jamie Annis and Cole Stark stood out for the Big Walnut track and field teams over the weekend, scoring a slew of points to lift their respective squad’s to top-five showings during the always-competitive Gary Smith Invitational Saturday at Thomas Worthington High School.

Joe Evener’s Golden Eagle girls finished fourth with 70 1/2 points while the Golden Eagle boys closed fifth with 64 1/2.

Annis attracted the most attention, winning the 100-meter hurdles in a meet-record time of 0:14.76 seconds — a mark nearly a full second faster than that of Dublin Scioto’s May Hodge, who placed second in the race.

Annis also finished strong in the 100-meter dash and 300 hurdles, closing second in respective times of 0:13.05 and 0:48.30 seconds.

Other standouts included Anna Mackey, who finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 8 inches; and Sara Althauser, who finished third in the 300 hurdles in 0:48.93 seconds.

Eric Myers’ boys were led by Stark, who finished third in the 300 hurdles in 0:42.56 seconds and fourth in the triple and long jumps with respective distances of 38-08 3/4 and 21-0 1/4. The Golden Eagles’ Joe Muench placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 59.71 seconds; the 4x800 relay team of Bobby Bogantz, Jacob Thompson, Michael Buckles and Muench which finished third in 8:13.32; and Austin Crow, who closed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 44-01.
