The Village of Sunbury’s 32nd Annual Christmas on the Square celebration, scheduled for this Saturday, is a Big Walnut area Christmas Gala where folks gather to welcome in the Christmas season.
A Sunbury/Big Walnut Area Chamber of Commerce event sponsored this year by Sunbury Urgent Care, the 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas on the Square will feature a 5:30 p.m. Lighted Christmas Parade (parade stages at 5 p.m. at Burrer Drive), Visits with Santa, Horse & Carriage Rides, Boy Scout & Girl Scout Activities, Christmas Craft & Gift Fair, an ice-sculpting contest, wood carving demonstrations, a Holiday Open House for Local Merchants around village square and much more.
NBC News Channel 4’s Mindy Drayer and Dave Mazza will serve as parade announcers; and the 2013 Christmas Parade Grand Marshalls will be Donna and Glenn Evans.
The parade will feature a food and new toy drive during the parade for Big Walnut Friends Who Share and donations of toiletries for our military personnel. Bring nonperishable food items or a new toy for BWFWS and travel size personal care items (travel size toothpaste, bar soap, shampoo) to be sent to our adopted platoon.
There will be Horse & Carriage rides around the Square following the parade for donations until 8 p.m.
The Annual Tree Lighting ceremony will be held on the north side of the square at 7:30 p.m.
A Sunbury postal truck will be parked near the Toshi Memorial Gazebo at the southwest corner of Village Square to pick up letters to Santa and rush them straight to the north to the pole.
The Myers Inn Museum and Gift Shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for history browsing and early holiday gift shopping; and members of SUMC Brass will perform from the Myers Inn porch.
Live musical performances will be featured on and around the Square; and following the parade children can pose for personal pictures with Santa in the former Fling Hardware building (bring your own camera), participate in cookie decorating and there will be Christmas Stories read by Mindy Drayer.
And don’t forget to bring something for the Donation Station – nonperishable food items or new unwrapped toy for BWFWS and travel size toothpaste, bar soap and shampoo for our community’s adopted platoon.
